The Center for Fiction, New York founded in 1820 as the Mercantile Library, announced that Karl Marlantes won the 2010 Flahery-Dunnan First Novel prize, which includes a $10,000 cash award for Matterhorn (Atlantic Monthly Press & El Leon Literary Arts)

A prize of $10,000 is given annually for a first novel published in the United States during the current year. Finalists receive $1,000 each. Publishers may submit six copies of a book (or bound galleys or manuscripts) published in 2011 with a $50 entry fee by March 18.
